National Cave Week at Grand Caverns Park

Join us and celebrate Grand Caverns' and Fountain Cave's 50th anniversary as a National Natural Landmark during National Cave Week: June 4th - 10th

June 9th: Free Movie Night at Grand Caverns Park


Come watch a cave-themed and family friendly film; "Journey to the Center of the Earth" at Grand Caverns Park by the stage.

Bring the family out and bring your favorite movie snacks and chairs/blanket and enjoy this family friendly film, generously sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Grottoes.

June 10th: Cave & Karst Expo at Grand Caverns Park from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Bring the family out and learn about what makes the Shenandoah Valley so unique with caves and geology!
Also, bring an appetite, C&C Country Cookin' Food Truck will be there slinging southern cuisine!

This event will be packed with our partners including; Bat Conservation & Rescue of Virginia, JMU Geology Department, Cave Conservancy of the Virginias, Virginia Museum of Natural History, Virginia Living Museum, Shenandoah National Park, and the National Natural Landmark Program, just to name a few!!!!


We'll have fun engaging activities for the whole family;


- Crack open a geode millions of years old (and keep it!)
- Watch the professionals utilize caving equipment to climb up to the treetops

- Test your ability to squeeze through model cave openings... can you fit into an 8'' gap!?
- Learn about the endangered species of cave isopod found only in Madison Cave (right next door to Grand Caverns)
- Learn about how to build bat boxes in our efforts to recover bat populations from White Nose Syndrome
